The article I will be discussing is Life is Strange. What game is that? Fun or not huh? Let's discuss.
What is Life is Strange?
I've tried several games, from CS:GO, Osu!, Resident Evil and others. Then, I looked for some new games. And I found one game that I think is unique in terms of gameplay, namely Life is Strange.
So, can this mystical element work in harmony with the high school story that is being run? Or more importantly, can this part be successfully implemented in Life is Strange gameplay?
So, what is Life is Strange?
Life is Strange is an interactive and narrative game in which the continuation of the story is based on the player's choice of actions. The game was developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix.
Life is Strange has 5 separate episodes which were released in 2015 and you can play in offline mode on Steam. This game is also available on Xbox One or 360 consoles as well as Android/iOS smartphones. If you play using a console, you will get a different experience than playing on a PC.
Life is Strange tells a story with the background of high school life in the United States, precisely in Oregon, Arcadia Bay. Life is Strange has supernatural elements in its story.
The main character in this game, Max Caulfield, has the ability to reverse time. This makes the Life is Strange story more interesting and not monotonous. In addition, there is also a puzzle feature that makes this game more quality than games of similar genres such as games made by Telltale and Quantic Dreams.
With a high school background, the depiction of high school life is not only conveyed from the environment or the characters in the game, but also through the quality of the writing in the game.
Like the conversation that takes place between the characters, as well as the monologue that goes on in the mind of the main character, Max Caulfield, it really feels like what would come out of a teenager's mouth or mind. Starting from the style of speech, the atmosphere they experience, to the immaturity of their mindset, everything is described very well in Life is Strange.
The depiction of this teenager's life is also conveyed through a very good art direction. Life is Strange has an in-game menu that is described as a journal made by teenagers complete with appropriate topics, a very casual writing style full of pop culture references, as well as illustrations and photos pasted in a disheveled style but looks artistic and futuristic.
Interesting Features on Life is Strange
Of course in a game must have a feature that makes the game interesting. Just like the game Life is Strange, what are they?
A Well-Crafted Modern Adventure Game.
There are 2 things that gamers like in the world of gaming. First they like the graphics, second they like the story. However, this game provides both.
Starting from the graphics are steady and slick and the story is quite impressive and also sad. You can choose a storyline with a different ending later. So, make sure to choose the story wisely in order to get a good ending.
Rewind/Reverse Time to Change Events of the Story.
During the game, you are not the only ones who learn about the ability to turn back time, because Max the main character is still not used to his new power.
Throughout the episode, you will be presented with Max's daily life as a high school boy, how he began to familiarize himself with the power of controlling time, as well as his story of finding the reason why he suddenly had this strange power.
You will also find several other mysteries that will be revealed throughout the episode as well as indications of the mysteries that will appear in the next episode.
So, of course, you must be able to understand the meaning of each dialogue that appears, because each dialogue will appear a clue for the next scene. Isn't this rewind/reverse time quite unique? Yes, I really like, and often experiment to get different moments.
Indeed, for those of you who don't like this genre, you will get bored quickly. But you will get used to this game. Not only that, you can also learn English well through this game, hear conversations from native speakers in this game even though sometimes there are harsh words that appear (you know, high school teenagers).
Selecting a Dialogue/Conversation
In addition, the feature in the game Life is Strange that makes it interesting is choosing dialogue. Every time you have a conversation with an NPC/Non-Playable Character, you can reply with a different response (as shown above).
Each response you choose, the NPC will issue a different reply as well. If you don't like the reply, you can rewind time with Max's power.
Interact With Surrounding Objects
The next feature that makes this game unique is being able to interact with objects around you. How to? You need to point the camera at the desired object, then an option will appear to examine the object which will then appear a description of the object we selected. Each object can be a clue from the dialog that we selected earlier.
Different Ending Based On Your Choice
This game provides several ending options, ranging from good to bad ending. As I explained earlier, make sure you choose the option for each conversation that you think is good and wise. Always remember, that the dialogue choices you have chosen will have an impact on the storyline going forward.
Licensed Indie Soundtrack
The last thing is music/backsound. Life is Strange has a line of licensed music from various quality indie musicians to accompany your moments playing this game.
Names such as Mogwai, Amanda Palmer, Local Natives, Syd Matters, Angus and Julia Stone, and others, you will find during the game. The very right choice of music further enhances the youthful impression that Life is Strange has.
Conclusion
Overall, Life is Strange successfully presents a fun gaming experience. With the feel of a high school teenager that is very thick and mystical elements that are very well implemented into the game, I immediately really miss the high school days that I have experienced and of course I have a feature that everyone wants to have, namely rewind time.
If you need a game with good story quality and puzzles that aren't too overwhelming but still force you to think, then Life is Strange is the perfect game for you.
So how? Are you interested in playing this game? I highly recommend this game, because it has a very good story, amazing features and this game is light enough for those of you who have low device specifications.
